8 Healthy Fast-Food Smoothies

McDonald's

McDonald's smoothies contain fruit purees and juice concentrates, tonnes of sugar, artificial flavours, and corn starch and gelatin "smoothie yoghurt". The 12-oz. McCafé Strawberry Banana Smoothie has 190 calories, 39 grammes of sugar, and 40 mg of sodium.

Dunkin' Donut

Dunkin' smoothies may be the freshest item, but their sugar content makes them as unhealthy as donuts. A small (16-oz.) Strawberry Banana has 290 calories, 54 grammes sugar, and 80 grammes sodium. Yikes.

Burger King

Strawberry Banana and Tropical Mango smoothies use unhealthy smoothie mix. They have concentrated juice colour to make them bright, but don't let that fool you into thinking this is a good choice.

Orange Julius

If you're drinking smoothies for health, avoid this chain. They contain a beverage mix, fruit purees, and juices, and a small Mango Pineapple or Tripleberry has 250 to 290 calories, 55 to 64 grammes of sugar, and 85 milligrammes of sodium.

Baskin-Robbins

Just stick to Baskin-Robbins ice cream. The scoop shop makes smoothies from a pre-made beverage base with corn syrup and other strange ingredients. The classic pink straw may deliver 250 to 310 calories, 50 to 65 grammes of sugar, and 50 milligrammes of sodium, depending on the flavour.

Starbucks

Starbucks offers two smoothies online but not in all locations. Mocha sauce, protein, and fibre powder make their Chocolate Smoothie resemble a shake, and their Strawberry Smoothie has fruit juice and puree.

Freshens

See what's in each smoothie before ordering. Freshens has smart and sneaky diet-killers. A 20-oz. Tropical Therapy has 480 calories, 89 grammes of sugar, and 30 mg of sodium. High Performance menus like Oh Kale! cut back on bad parts.

Jamba Juice

At least here, real fruit is being blended. Jamba Juice smoothies rarely contain corn syrup, artificial flavours or preservatives. Even though they only eat frozen yoghurt, sherbet, juice, fresh fruit, milk, and ice, they're sugary.
