What are kidney stones? 

Cranberry juice for kidney stones is controversial. Cranberry juice and kidney stones have been linked in older studies, therefore additional study is needed.

Oxalates in cranberry juice enhance calcium oxalate kidney stone risk. When consumed in large amounts, oxalates bond to calcium, especially if you have kidney stones.

Cranberry juice also reduced urine citric acid excretion, which can cause kidney stones, in one older study. Another older study revealed no effect of cranberry juice on citric acid.

Juices that are high in citric acid (e.g., orange, blackcurrant, and lemon) or malic acid (e.g., apple juice) may help prevent the formation of kidney stones.
