Meteor showers, eclipses and more

The Quadrantid meteor shower will peak on the night of January 2-3, with up to 120 meteors per hour visible in the Northern Hemisphere.

A total lunar eclipse will occur on May 26, visible from parts of Asia, Australia, and the western United States.

The Perseid meteor shower, one of the most popular of the year, will peak on the night of August 11-12, with up to 100 meteors per hour visible in the Northern Hemisphere.

A partial solar eclipse will occur on June 10, visible from parts of North America, Europe, and Asia.

The Orionid meteor shower will peak on the night of October 20-21, with up to 20 meteors per hour visible in the Northern Hemisphere.

A total solar eclipse will occur on December 4, visible from parts of Antarctica and the southern Indian Ocean.

Other celestial events to watch for include the Lyrid meteor shower in April, the Eta Aquarid meteor shower in May, and the Geminid meteor shower in December.
