Signing Santa Takes Requests From ASL Community In Missouri

Many parents rarely see Santa reading lists and signing questions to kids outside of their small special needs community.

At Bass Pro Shops, more than 100 deaf and hard of hearing students were excited to meet the “Signing Santa”—an ASL-fluent Santa Claus.

Springfield natives founded the non-profit Deaf Awareness Group of SW Missouri, which has hosted the event with Bass Pro Shops since 2015.

Our kids rarely get to talk to anyone, so having Santa Claus, who is “so precious and so special and is-all knowing,” is “amazing.”
